The Instructor Development Course is divided into two sections, the Assistant Instructor course and the Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) programme.
Candidates completing an entire Instructor Development Course (or Assistant Instructors who go onto complete an Open Water Scuba Instructor program) are eligible to enrol in a PADI Instructor Examination (IE) conducted by PADI staff. You can also include additional training to teach PADI Specialities and become a Master Scuba Diver Trainer once 25 student certifications are achieved.
What's Included?
(extras - PADI Fees, Instructor Examination Fee, entrance to open water sites for training)
The Instructor Exam evaluates the candidates teaching ability, dive knowledge, skill level, understanding of the PADI System, attitude and professionalism using standardised, objective criteria. The Instructor Exam is conducted over 2 days and candidates complete theory exams, classroom presentations, confined and open water skill presentations.
When the performance criteria are met, candidates achieve the PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) rating.
As an Open Water Scuba Instructor you'll conduct the full range of PADI courses from Open Water up to Divemaster. You can complete Speciality Instructor training as part of your Instructor Development Course or later to achieve your Master Scuba Diver Trainer rating. The next step is to become a PADI Staff Instructor which enables you to assist on Instructor Development Courses - this can then be followed by Master Instructor.
