Non - Diving Speciality Courses
AWARE - Coral Reef Conservation Speciality
This course teaches divers, snorkelers and non-divers about the vital role that coral reefs play in the marine environment; and how these ecosystems are currently threatened.
Specific areas include:
* An introduction to project AWARE.
* The importance of coral reefs to maring ecosystems and coastal areas.
* Coral reef and reef inhabitant biology, association and competition.
* The status of the worlds coral reefs and detrimental land-based and ocean-based activities that put reefs in peril.
* Suggestions and information about actions that may help to protect reefs, including responsible diving and snorkeling practices.
No Open Water Training dives required.
Cost: £35 (Project AWARE manual included)
Equipment Speciality
This course is intended to familiarise divers with the operation and maintenance of equipment - it is not an equipment repair course.
Specific areas include:
* The theory, principles and operation of diving equipment.
* Routine recommended care adn maintenance procedures and equipment storage.
* Common problems with equipment and recommended professional maintenance procedures.
* Simple suggestions for comfortable equipment configurations and an introduction to new equipment.
No Open Water Training dives required.
Cost: £40 or £60 with Encyclopedia

This programme is designed to familiarise divers and non-divers with the plight of worldwide aquatic ecosystems. It also describes what individuals can do to help protect aquatic resources.
Specific areas include:
* The project AWARE philosophy: protecting worldwide aquatic ecosystems.
* The importance of and interdependant nature of worldwide ecosystems.
* Pertinent issues concerning the environmental status of worldwide aquatic ecosystems, including: fisheries concerns, coastal zone management and marine pollution.
* The status of specific, critically degraded marine environments.
* Suggestions and information about specific actions that may help to conserve worldwide aquatic ecosystems.
No Open Water Training dives required.
Cost: £35 (Project AWARE manual included)
*Costs exclude entrance to dive sites and boat trips where required.
*If more than one Project AWARE course is completed, price reduced due to manual being relevant to all three specialities.
