Advanced Open Water Weekend
The Advanced Open Water course is a great follow on after Open Water, giving newly qualified divers the chance to continue and gain experience under the supervision of a PADI Instructor. It also increases the depth qualification to 30 metres and gives divers the chance to adventure dive in specialist areas, some of the most popular being Wreck, Dry Suit and Search and Recovery. There are mandatory Deep and Navigation Dives and all 5 dives are completed over a weekend.
June 11th and 12th saw the school back in Open Water for our Advanced Open Water Weekend in June, with two excited students, Zoe Haycocks and Spencer Whiting. The weather was very kind on the Saturday morning with Stoney being bathed in sun, and we were joined by some club members for our first day diving. Recently qualified Lily Owen was on hand to provide some extra surface support while Dad Nick took to the water, along with Paige (Spencer's girlfriend) who will soon be venturing into open water herself when she finishes her Open Water Course.
In charge of diving activities was Staff Instructor Jon Lyall, ably supported by Assistant Instructor Den Cook, and briefings complete the divers headed off to the water. After some fun with a comedy giant stride from Den (you can check out his video on our Tik Tok page Scubanuts where it's had a massive 10.5k views) the serious business of the diving began. Navigation and DrySuit/Peak Performance Buoyancy were executed flawlessly on day one and we were keen to get stuck into day 2 on the Sunday.
Back on a slightly cooler Sunday morning, we were quick to brief and get going as we knew we had three dives to complete that day. First job was the Deep Dive with our guys heading into the depths of Stoney, followed by Wreck around the Wessex helicopter, and then Search and Recovery. Again the dives passed without a hitch and diving business done we headed to the pub for certificate presentations and a well earned drink. Congratulations to our newly qualified Advanced divers!
