PADI Night Diver Course
Discover the unique challenges of diving after sunset and learn how to dive safely, confidently and responsibly in low-light conditions.
PADI eLearning
After booking, you’ll receive access to the PADI Night Diver eLearning programme. Complete the theory online at your own pace before attending the practical training.
The eLearning covers:
- Planning and organising night dives
- Using primary and backup lights safely
- Maintaining buddy contact and communicating with light signals
- Navigation in darkness
- Buoyancy, trim and night-diving techniques
- Signalling equipment and surface marker buoys
- Managing common night-diving problems
- Observing nocturnal marine life responsibly
Completing the eLearning before the dives allows you to focus on applying these skills in the water.
Practical training
The course includes three supervised open-water night dives led by an experienced PADI Instructor. Practical sessions may take place over one or more evenings, depending on conditions and availability.
During the dives, you’ll practise:
- Night-dive planning and preparation
- Safe use of primary and backup lights
- Light signals and buddy communication
- Navigation in darkness
- Buoyancy and trim control
- Use of signalling equipment and surface marker buoys
- Responsible observation of nocturnal marine life

Requirements
You must be at least 12 years old and hold a recognised PADI Open Water Diver certification or equivalent. Previous night-diving experience is not required.
You’ll also need to complete the PADI medical questionnaire. Medical clearance may be required depending on your answers.
Equipment
All of the equipment is included with your booking. You may use your own suitable, familiar and well-maintained equipment. A primary dive torch and backup light are recommended. For all rental equipment please provide your height, weight, shoe size and clothing sizes with the link we will send you once you have booked on the course so we can prepare the correct equipment.
Booking
After booking, we’ll email two or three available date options within two to three working days. Dates are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
Training dates and locations may be changed if weather, water conditions or safety requirements make this necessary.
