PADI Wreck Diver Specialty
Discover the skills, knowledge and techniques needed to enjoy recreational wreck diving while protecting yourself, your buddy and the wreck environment.
PADI eLearning
After booking, you’ll receive access to the PADI Wreck Diver eLearning programme. Complete the theory online at your own pace before attending the practical training.
The eLearning covers:
- Wreck-diving planning and procedures
- Using lines, reels and guidelines
- Safe entry and exit techniques
- Buoyancy control around fragile wrecks
- Navigation and limited-visibility techniques
- Managing hazards, entanglement risks and silt
- Appropriate equipment and lighting
- Wreck conservation and responsible diving practices
- Completing the eLearning before the practical sessions allows you to focus on developing and applying your wreck-diving skills in the water.
You’ll learn to
- Plan and conduct recreational wreck dives
- Use lines, reels and guidelines safely
- Perform controlled wreck entries and exits
- Maintain buoyancy around fragile wreck structures
- Navigate in limited visibility
- Recognise and manage hazards, entanglement risks and silt
- Select and use suitable wreck-diving equipment and lighting
- Protect wrecks through responsible diving practices
The course combines PADI eLearning with four supervised open-water wreck dives at Stoney Cove. The dives are completed over a weekend with experienced PADI Instructors and include practical exercises, briefings, debriefs and instructor feedback.

Requirements
You must be at least 15 years old and hold a PADI Adventure Diver certification or equivalent qualification. Good buoyancy control, air management and dive-planning skills are recommended. You’ll also need to complete the PADI medical questionnaire. Medical clearance may be required depending on your answers.
Course limitations
The course covers recreational wreck penetration only, within the limits of daylight, direct access to the surface and a single gas supply. It does not qualify you for complex or deep overhead-environment diving.
Equipment
Scuba equipment, cylinders, air fills, exposure protection and suitable wreck-diving equipment are included with your booking. You may use your own suitable, familiar and well-maintained equipment where appropriate. A dive computer, surface marker buoy, reel and dive torch are recommended. Guidance on equipment requirements will be provided before training.
What to bring
Bring warm clothing, food and drinks, suitable footwear, and any personal equipment you wish to use, such as a dive computer, surface marker buoy, reel or torch.
Stoney Cove entry and parking fees may apply.
Training dates and locations
The practical training takes place at Stoney Cove and is completed over a weekend. Training dates will be confirmed after booking. Sessions may be rescheduled or relocated if weather, water conditions or other safety considerations are unsuitable.
Booking
After booking, we’ll email two or three date options within two to three working days. Dates are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
