PADI Dry Suit Diver Specialty
Develop the knowledge and skills needed to dive comfortably and confidently in a dry suit. You’ll learn how to use dry-suit equipment, control your buoyancy, stay warm and manage common dry-suit diving problems. The course combines PADI eLearning, a confined-water pool session and two supervised open-water dives at Stoney Cove.
PADI eLearning
After your booking and medical details have been confirmed, you’ll receive access to the PADI Dry Suit Diver eLearning programme. Complete the theory online at your own pace before attending the practical sessions.
The eLearning covers:
- Dry-suit components and equipment
- Suitable undergarments and weighting
- Buoyancy control using a dry suit
- Safe dry-suit diving procedures
- Managing air in the suit
- Preventing and responding to common problems
- Equipment care and maintenance
Completing the eLearning before the practical training allows you to concentrate on developing your skills in the pool and open water.
Skills learned
- Prepare and check dry-suit equipment
- Put on and remove a dry suit safely
- Control buoyancy using your dry suit and buoyancy compensator
- Manage air movement within the suit
- Adjust weighting for dry-suit diving
- Respond to common dry-suit diving problems
- Conduct controlled ascents and descents
- Dive safely and comfortably in cooler water
Course format
Confined-water training
- Thursday evening, 17:30–21:30
- Cripps Pool, Northampton
The pool session provides a controlled environment in which to become familiar with your dry suit and practise essential skills.
Open-water training
- One Saturday or Sunday at Stoney Cove
- Two supervised open-water dives
- Led by experienced PADI Instructors
Training dates will be confirmed after booking.

Requirements
You must:
- Hold a recognised PADI Open Water Diver certification or equivalent
- Have basic water confidence
- Complete the required swim and tread-water assessments
- Complete the PADI medical questionnaire before entering the pool
Medical clearance may be required depending on your answers to the questionnaire.
Equipment and preparation
We’ll request your height, weight, shoe size and clothing sizes before training so that suitable equipment can be prepared. A dry suit, under-suit and scuba equipment are included. You’re welcome to use your own suitable, familiar and well-maintained equipment where appropriate.
What to bring
- Swimwear
- A towel
- Warm clothing
- Any preferred personal mask or snorkel
Cripps Pool parking costs approximately £0.60 and can be paid by card or cash.
Stoney Cove entry and parking fees may also apply. Open-water sessions are subject to weather, water conditions and safety considerations.
Training details
The course includes one pool session followed by two supervised open-water dives at Stoney Cove. You must complete the PADI eLearning before attending the practical training. Sessions may be rescheduled or alternative arrangements offered if conditions are unsuitable or safety considerations require a change.
Booking policy
After booking, we’ll email two or three date options within two to three working days. Dates are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
Alternative Thursday pool dates may be available if required.
