​Frequently Asked Questions

What are the prerequisites for the PADI Night Diver Specialty?

• You must hold a recognised PADI Open Water Diver certification, or an equivalent qualification, and be at least 12 years old. No previous night-diving experience is required. You should be comfortable with basic scuba skills, buoyancy control and normal buddy procedures. ​You must also complete the PADI medical questionnaire as soon as possible after booking. If your answers indicate that medical clearance is required, you may need approval from your GP or a diving medical professional before taking part.​

How long does the course take?

• The course consists of PADI eLearning followed by three supervised open-water night dives. The practical training is normally arranged over one or more evenings, depending on site availability, daylight hours, instructor availability and suitable conditions. Each session includes a detailed briefing, equipment preparation, a night dive and a post-dive debrief.

Where are the training sessions held?

• The practical training takes place at an agreed local open-water dive site, selected according to suitability, safety, availability and current conditions. The exact location and meeting arrangements will be confirmed before your training dates.

Do I need my own night-diving equipment?

• No. The scuba equipment required for the course will be confirmed as part of your booking. You’ll need suitable underwater lighting for night dives, including a primary torch and an appropriate backup light. We’ll explain what is required and confirm whether torches and other specialist equipment are included or need to be provided by you. You’re welcome to use your own equipment, provided it is suitable, familiar to you and in good working order.

What are the class sizes and instructor ratios?

• We keep groups small wherever possible, allowing plenty of time for questions, practical exercises and individual support. This provides personalised tuition and helps ensure that you are comfortable using your equipment, maintaining buddy contact and applying night-diving procedures under direct supervision.

Is any additional equipment or preparation required?

• You’ll need to complete the PADI eLearning before attending the practical training sessions.

Will I receive certification after completing the course?

• Yes. Upon successful completion of the eLearning, knowledge reviews and three supervised night dives, you’ll receive the PADI Night Diver Specialty certification, which will be recorded on your PADI diver profile.

What happens if weather or site conditions are unsuitable?

• We monitor weather, water conditions, visibility and site suitability carefully. If conditions are unsuitable or safety could be compromised, we’ll reschedule or relocate the training where possible. Your safety is our priority, and we’ll keep you informed of any changes to the planned arrangements.
