​What are the prerequisites for the PADI Enriched Air Diver Specialty?

• You must hold a recognised PADI Open Water Diver certification, or an equivalent qualification, and be at least 12 years old. No previous nitrox experience is required. You should be comfortable with basic recreational dive planning and standard scuba procedures. Any required medical clearance must be completed before taking part in the course.

How long does the course take?
The course consists of PADI eLearning followed by a practical training session with a PADI Instructor.

• Most students complete the course in approximately half a day, although the exact duration depends on the number of students, your progress and whether optional nitrox dives are included in your booking.

Where are the training sessions held?
The practical training normally takes place at Northampton Scuba School or another agreed local location.

• If practical dives are included, the location and arrangements will be confirmed before your training date. All activities are subject to instructor availability and suitable conditions.

Do I need my own nitrox equipment?

• No. The equipment and materials required for the course will be confirmed as part of your booking. You’re welcome to use your own dive computer or other suitable equipment, provided it supports enriched air nitrox and is in good working order. Our instructors will show you how to set your computer correctly for the gas you are using.

You’ll learn how to safely plan and use enriched air nitrox for recreational diving, including:

What are the class sizes and instructor ratios?

• We keep groups small wherever possible, allowing plenty of time for questions, practical exercises and individual support. This provides personalised instruction and helps ensure that you understand cylinder analysis, oxygen exposure limits and nitrox dive planning before completing the course.

Is any additional equipment or preparation required?

• You’ll need to complete the PADI eLearning before attending the practical training session. Please bring your logbook or certification details and your personal dive computer if you have one. Your computer must be suitable for enriched air nitrox. If practical diving is included, you should also bring suitable exposure protection and any personal equipment you prefer to use. We’ll provide further guidance on equipment and preparation before your training date.

Will I receive certification after completing the course?

• Yes. Upon successful completion of the eLearning and practical training, you’ll receive the PADI Enriched Air Diver certification, which will be recorded on your PADI diver profile.

What happens if practical diving conditions are unsuitable?

• If optional nitrox dives are included in your booking and weather or site conditions are unsuitable, we’ll monitor the situation and reschedule or relocate the dives where possible. Your safety is our priority, and we’ll keep you informed of any changes to the planned arrangements.
