​What are the prerequisites for the PADI Deep Diver Specialty?

• You must hold a recognised PADI Adventure Diver certification, or an equivalent qualification, and be at least 15 years old. You must also have completed the Deep Adventure Dive, or an equivalent deep-diving qualification, depending on the certification pathway. Any required medical clearance must be completed before the practical training. Good buoyancy control, air-management skills and general diving experience are strongly recommended.

​How long does the course take?

• The course includes PADI eLearning followed by four supervised open-water deep dives. These are normally completed over one full day or arranged across two shorter sessions, depending on site conditions, availability and scheduling.

Where are the training sessions held?

• The practical training takes place at Stoney Cove, subject to site conditions and availability. The location provides suitable depths for completing the required deep-diving training.

Do I need my own deep-diving equipment?

• No. Appropriate scuba equipment and the specialist equipment required for the course are included, as specified in your booking. You are welcome to use your own equipment, such as a dive computer, surface marker buoy or reel, provided it is suitable and in good working order.

What will I learn during the course?
You’ll learn how to plan and conduct dives to a maximum depth of 40 metres, including:

• Managing increased gas consumption at depth
• Planning gas supplies and bottom time
• Controlling buoyancy and trim at greater depths
• Completing safe descents and ascents
• Understanding nitrogen narcosis and its effects
• Recognising changes in colour, light and visibility
• Using appropriate deep-diving equipment
• Managing potential problems at depth
• Using a surface marker buoy and other safety equipment
• Applying buddy procedures and emergency planning
• Understanding decompression considerations and no-stop limits

The course develops your recreational deep-diving skills. It does not qualify you for technical diving, decompression diving or dives beyond the maximum recreational depth of 40 metres.
What are the class sizes and instructor ratios?

• We keep groups small and student-to-instructor ratios low wherever possible. This provides personalised tuition, detailed feedback and plenty of time to practise deep-diving skills under direct supervision.

Is any additional equipment or preparation required?

• You’ll need to complete the PADI eLearning before the practical sessions and bring your logbook, suitable exposure protection and any personal dive equipment you prefer to use. If you own a dive computer, surface marker buoy, reel or other suitable safety equipment, please bring it with you. We’ll provide further guidance on equipment and preparation before your training day.

Will I receive certification after completing the course?

• Yes. Upon successful completion, you’ll receive the PADI Deep Diver Specialty certification, which will be recorded on your PADI diver profile. What happens if weather or site conditions are unsuitable? We monitor conditions carefully and will reschedule or relocate the dives if necessary.
