                                            Open Water Diver Course

                                            Picture

The most popular diving course in the world, the PADI Open Water Diver Course gives you a feeling of freedom that only scuba diving brings. Learning to dive gives you a skill you'll enjoy the rest of your life as you explore the underwater world - from historic shipwrecks and colourful coral reefs teeming with life to the mysteries of your local quarry.

The Open Water Course allows you to understand and grasp the basic principles of scuba diving, including diving techniques, underwater skills and diver equipment.

Certification to this level allows you to dive to 18m.

                                            Confined Water Sessions (Swimming Pool)
We get you into the water first before the theory begins. The confined water sessions are split into 5 modules with new skills being taught on each module so that you learn everything from setting up your gear to how to easily get water out of your mask without surfacing. At the end of each session time is allocated for diver's own practice - we give you as much time as you need in the pool at no additional cost - practice makes for confidence! Before you complete the course you will also need to swim 200m and tread water for 10 minutes.  Pool times are usually Friday evenings from 7.30pm unitl 9.15pm at the Cripps pool in the grounds of Northampton General Hospital or Sunday late afternoon from 6pm until 7.15pm at Scott Bader pool in Wollaston.

                                            Classroom Sessions
There are 5 modules to the academic part of the course, consisting of knowledge development sessions, quizzes and a final exam with a 75% pass mark. The course materials include a DVD and manual so you can study in the comfort of your own home in your own time before coming to the Dive Centre to review the key areas and complete the quizzes and exam.  We arrange the dates to suit your availability and usually once you've completed a few pool sessions.

                                            Open Water Dives
Once classroom and pool work is complete we move to open water for the completion of the course. There are 4 Open Water dives made, over a period of 2 days, where you put into practice skills and knowledge gained in a real world situation. On completion of the 4 dives to a satisfactory standard you will be awarded your Open Water Diver certification and you are a qualified diver!

You must be 10 years or older to undertake this course.
